New York Celebrates Red Socks!

For the first time there will be three recipients of the Lilah Kan Red Socks award:

  • dancer, singer and theatre artist Marina Celander (nominated by Pan Asian Repertory Theatre),
  • actor Peter Kim (nominated by NAATCO), and
  • director and choreographer Orlando Pabotoy (nominated by Ma-Yi Theater Company).

Named to celebrate the memory of Lilah Kan, the popular actress, writer, chef, and “hostess with the mostest” known for her support of emerging artists, and opening her home to many at the start of their careers, the award specifically honors an Asian American artist working in the New York City theatrical community and includes an elegant plaque designed by the artist Carol Sun, along with a check for $1,000.

PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE is honored to host the ceremony following a matinee performance of Fishing for Wives, a New York premiere written by Edward Sakamoto and directed by Ron Nakahara. Fishing for Wives is a vintage romantic comedy of errors, colorfully visualized against the backdrop of the Hawaiian islands.

Tickets are $51.25 and include entry to the performance and the award ceremony which will take place in the theater immediately after the curtain. Contact Telecharge at 212-239-6200 or www.telecharge.com. Discounts codes and instructions for seniors, students and groups are available at www.panasianrep.org. Donors of $250 or more to Lilah Kan Red Socks fund receive two complimentary tickets to the performance, and an invitation to the reception afterwards. To donate call the Pan Asian business office at 212/868-4030.
