Stockton's Asian American Repertory Theater retursn

The Asian American Repertory Theater announces its return into the performing and visual arts with the re-development of performing arts and its current offering for Public Access Television.

Founded in 1990, AART began as an idea of a small but determined group of actors and educators whose purpose was to provide opportunities for Asian American actors and playwrights to develop and practice the craft of live theater. With their first production of “Songs of Harmony” by Karen Huie, The company went on to develop and produce productions by Playwrights Ed Sakamoto, Edgar Poma and Jeannie Barroga. This led to collaborative projects with the Stockton Civic Theater in productions of Phillip Kan Gotanda’s “Song For a Nisei Fisherman, featuring veteran actor Jim Ishida and Wakako Yamauchi’s “And the Soul Shall Dance”.

In 2001, the company temporarily went into hiatus but now we’re back. Our mission continues with a branch out into multi media with our program “Our Voice”, a Public access cable show featuring Asian American artists and personalities in our area. We are planning a return to the stage with an upcoming production slated for Spring 2010.
