SD Asian American Rep presents new reading

San Diego Asian American Repertory Theatre proudly announces a staged reading of the play STRUGGLING TRUTHS by Peter Mellencamp. STRUGGLING TRUTHS will be presented at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, February 27, 2000 at the Jack Dodge Space, located at 335 6th Street in downtown San Diego. The reading will be directed by AART Associate Artistic Director Kimberly Miller and produced by AART Managing Director Arnold Marquez.

The play tells the story of a brother and sister who must separately journey through faith and politics as their an-cient land is engulfed by a foreign movement, forcing them to choose between compassion and revolution. Intriguingly, the Dalai Lama and Mao Zedong appear as characters. While the play has received other readings, its only previous full production took place at the Odyssey Theatre, Los Angeles, in 1990.

The playwright is a member of the Story Analysts Union and has worked as a full-time story analyst since 1986 for MGM/UA, Paramount, Twentieth Century-Fox, Columbia, Warner Brothers, Universal, and Disney. In that time Mr. Mellencamp has analyzed over 5,000 screenplays and evaluated scripts for independent producers, agencies, and STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. He currently teaches Story Analysis for Film and Television at the American Film Institute, holding a Masters Degree (cum laude) in cinema production and screenwriting from the University of Southern California. Two of Mr. Mellencamp's screenplays are currently under option to Snowfall Films and Blue Water Entertainment.
