ANNNOUNCEMENT OF FACULTY VACANCY
DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE

Full-Time, Tenure Track Position
THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES and DRAMA-IN-EDUCATION INSTRUCTOR
Projected Start Date: Fall Semester, 2000 (late August)

RANK: Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience

QUALIFICATIONS: We seek a dynamic theatre for young audiences and drama-in-education specialist with strong intercultural interests who will enhance the academic excellence of the existing theatre education program for non-majors studying to be teachers, strengthen the undergraduate theatre arts emphasis in child drama, and pursue the development of a graduate program in theatre education

Required:

  • Ph.D. or M.F.A. degree in theatre
  • Minimum of two years’ demonstrated excellence in teaching college/ university level courses in creative drama and theatre for young audiences evidence of ongoing commitment to innovative creative activity and to a research agenda that is shared at national/international levels.
  • Experience in working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Record of successfully directing plays for young audiences and interest in intercultural plays and new plays for children
  • Participation in appropriate discipline-related national/international organizations
  • Effective collaborative skills

ASSIGNMENT:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in creative drama and theatre for young audiences to non-majors preparing to be teachers.
  • Direct theatre for young audiences productions.
  • Assist senior faculty in developing innovative theatre education curriculum at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Expand enrollment of theatre arts majors in theatre education courses.
  • Collaborate on the development and administration of an annual international theatre festival for children.
  • Pursue intercultural community outreach initiatives and interdisciplinary links with other SDSU departments.
  • Option to teach related theatre courses depending on qualifications and departmental needs.
