Call for Asian male actor, NY

Auditions will be held January 9th and 10th for a showcase production of a new play - LIFE SCIENCE by Anna Ziegler - to be directed by Joel Froomkin, winner of the Best Director award for the 2006 NY Fringe Festival for his production of THE INFLICTION OF CRUELTY.  Producer Jack Thomas most recently presented Tennessee Williams' SUMMER AND SMOKE in its London debut at the Apollo Theatre in the West End.   Last season, Jack produced John Cariani's romantic comedy ALMOST, MAINE at the Daryl Roth Theatre Off Broadway, as well as Stephen Adly Guirgis' OUR LADY OF 121st STREET at the Union Square Theatre.

About the show:  What does it mean these days to be a teenager? To be a Jewish teenager? LIFE SCIENCE examines the lives of four teens living in the plush DC suburbs. Over the course of several months, the students make out, break up, discuss their plans for college - or not - and debate the role that being Jewish plays in their sense of themselves.

About the production:  LIFE SCIENCE will be presented as a showcase at Shetler Studio Theatre 54 from February 28th through March 10th, 2007. This showcase production offers no salary.  We are seeking non-Equity actors for the 3 available roles detailed below.  Auditions will be by appointment only and will take place on January 9th and 10th, 2007.   To be considered, please submit headshot and resume to lifescience@shpnyc.com.

LIFE SCIENCE is also seeking a Stage Manager, interested parties should submit a cover letter and resume to lifescience@shpnyc.com.

Life Science Character Descriptions

Tom: 17, male, Asian; Tom is quiet but not exactly shy. He's become accustomed to being on his own. He doesn't think about life too intensely. He's not adept at socializing, and seems awkward because of it. An attractive dork. Will probably be shirtless at some point during the show.

The character of Tom is indeed Asian, adopted at birth by a progressive but culturally devoted Jewish family. He attends a Jewish secondary school, and has been brought up within the Jewish tradition. He rarely contemplates his country of origin. Since this is a new play, the specific country of origin may be tailored
to the actor selected for the role.

Although the stipulated age of the character is 17, we welcome actors of appropriate age range who can realistically portray a 17-year-old.

Non Equity preferred.
