Now Booking E Nana I Ke Kumu, Look to the Source for 2000- 2002
Written and Performed by Leilani Chan

In E Nana I Ke Kumu, Leilani Chan explores issues facing today's Hawai'i through the haku (weaving) of monologue, story, dance, poetry, and music.  In this distinctive solo performance, present-day characters voice their uncertainty about Hawai'i's future.  Exploding the image of the islands as simply a wonderland for tourists, these voices cry out their concern.  This groundbreaking work brings to life the stories of contemporary souls searching to reclaim their heritage, their honor and the lost memories of a shattered homeland.  E Nana is a journey that travels from Hawai'i to the mainland and back.

This show has had successful bi-coastal runs, premiering at New WORLD Theater in Amherst, Massachusttes and at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, California as part of their 1997-1998 season.  It has also played at college campuses throughout California.  It was created in July 1997 with a partial commisison by the New England Foundation for the Arts and the National Performance Network's Creation Fund.
