The audience can sing along to their favourite songs like “I Enjoy Being a Girl”, “Chop Suey” and “One Hundred Million Miracles” with all lyrics embedded on screen.

Doors will open at 7:30 pm so come early to take part in all the preshow events. For those who know Flower Drum Song inside and out, test your knowledge in the trivia contests. Browse through the White Elephant Table or bid at the Silent Auction. Dress up in a costume from the show or late 50s to enter the costume contest. Prizes will be awarded. There will also be a 50/50 draw and cash bar. Meet some of the cast from VACT’s 2009 production of Flower Drum Song, including Rosie Simon (Mei Li) Isaac Kwok (Wang Ta), Linda Leong (Madame Liang) and Tom Chin (Dr. Li).

Released in 1961, Flower Drum Song was one of the first North American films to feature strong Asian characters who achieve success and happiness in an Asian American setting. Nominated for 5 Academy Awards, including Best Music and Best Costume Design, this romantic comedy tells the story of a young Chinese woman who travels to the United States for an arranged marriage and falls into a modern-day love triangle. Starring Nancy Kwan, James Shigeta, Jack Soo and Miyoshi Umeki, the cast was made up almost entirely of Asian actors.
