Joyce Lam, Artistic Director Retires from VACT after 14 Years

Joyce Lam, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre, is stepping down at the end of June after having produced over 45 productions. She is leaving VACT in very capable hands with two paid Artistic Associates: Annie Jang and Andrea Yu; a paid Acting Artistic Director, Donna Yamamoto; and Board President, Tetsuro Shigematsu. (Not to mention our new office space in Chinatown!) VACT will continue with its vision to showcase Asian Canadian talent on and off the stage and to develop Asian Canadian voices/stories for stage through VACT¹s MSG Theatre Lab.

For the past 14 years, under Joyce¹s artistic direction, VACT broke down Asian media stereotypes starting with Asian Comedy Nights and the Sex in Vancouver Romantic Comedy Serial. These and subsequent productions depicted Asian Canadians as three-dimensional characters who resonated with the Asian Canadian community.
