Visual Communications seeks Executive Director

The Board of Directors is searching for an Executive Director to lead a nationally recognized, Asian Pacific American, Academy-Award-winning, media arts organization in Los Angeles.

Founded in 1970, Visual Communications (VC) is the first and only full service Asian Pacific media arts center in the nation. VC was created with the understanding that media and arts are important vehicles to organize and empower communities, build connections between generations, challenge perspectives, and create an environment for critical thinking necessary to build a more just and humane society.

Our mission is to promote intercultural understanding through the creation, presentation, preservation and support of media works by and about Asian
Pacific Americans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vision, leadership and motivation to the organization.
  • Develop and implement strong fundraising programs both corporate and individual
  • Responsible for a budget of approximately $500,000 per year.
  • Manage both the day-to-day activities with an eye to the long range planning goals.
  • Manage/develop/assess/evaluate job performance of a staff of 10 employees (2 full time and 8 part time)
  • Develop accountability policies for each job position
  • Formulate and recommend policies and procedures for Board consideration.
  • Serves as the organization&Mac226;s senior representative to all constituencies: Asian Pacific ethnic groups, arts communities, and the film & television industry

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A strong passion for and familiarity with the media arts, particularly within the Asian Pacific context
  • Track record of successful fund raising, resource development, and grant
    funding.
  • Previous experience with managing a program or organization with a budget of over $300,000/year.
  • Demonstrated success in working with collaborative partners from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Organizational development and operational planning experience with a track record of fiscally sound programs and events.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with an ability to offer support and direction to staff, volunteers and Board to insure meeting organizational goals and vision.
  • Strong finance background with the ability to prepare and evaluate financial reports.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to think "out of the box" in developing new programs and revenue sources within the context and financial constraints of our organization.
  • Adept and knowledgeable about new media technologies.
  • Experience with building audiences and providing a successful customer experience.

  • Honest, articulate, and ethical with a strong commitment to create an environment that assists Asian Pacific artists to do their best work.
  • A team player and an excellent communicator able to unify and build support among people at every level (i.e. staff, board, and community partners).
  • A strong commitment to improving access to media and technology resources for underserved communities.
  • Resourceful and flexible with an ability to cultivate prospective donors
  • A strong sense of humor
