Velina Hasu Houston has three new plays that will have their world premieres in the 2006-2007 season, two of which are about Asian or Asian American experience. Her play "Calling Aphrodite," a Pinter Review Prize for Drama Silver Medalist, will premiere in August 2007 at International City Theatre, Long Beach, California, www.ictlongbeach.com. Her play, "The House of Chaos," a contemporary, Japanese-based Medea adaptation, will premiere at Asian American Repertory Theatre, San Diego, in spring 2007. In October 2006, her play, "The Peculiar and Sudden Nearness of the Moon," will premiere at Sacramento Theatre Company. In addition, "Desert Dreamers," a Tivoli Entertainment documentary that she co-produced, debuts this month on PBS (PBS KQED San Francisco) with Peter Fonda as narrator.
