Britain's Yellow Earth Theatre presents Typhoon 6
TYPHOON 6
New plays by East Asian writers
Presented by Yellow Earth Theatre Company
At Greenwich Theatre
21 – 25 June 2009
Yellow Earth, the British East Asian theatre company, presents its sixth programme of new work by British East Asian writers in June 2009 as they launch a new creative partnership with Greenwich Theatre. This annual festival of international playreadings includes exciting new work from China, Singapore, Vietnam, America and the UK. In October 2009 the partnership with Greenwich continues with the world premieres of two fully produced plays at the venue, BOOM! from Singapore and WAVE from the USA.
New joint artistic directors Philippe Cherbonnier and Jonathan Man are also making their debuts with this season. Their appointment was announced earlier this year.
TYPHOON 6 includes the following playreadings, all at 7.30 at Greenwich Theatre. In addition there will be Storytelling (suitable for ages 5 and up) at the Fan Museum opposite the Greenwich Theatre on Sunday, 21 June at 2 pm.

DIALOGUE AND REBUTTAL (China) directed by Jonathan Man.
Written by Gao Xingjian
A middle aged man is about to leave a young woman with whom he has just spent the night. But in that instant a conversation is born. Out of thing it slowly grows to cover more intimate thoughts and reflections on love and life. A beguiling story by this daring Chinese playwright and Nobel prize winner for literature now residing in France.

WONDERLAND (Singapore/USA) directed by Jonathan Man
By Chay Yew
The rise and fall of an immigrant family full of hope and aspiration in the land of plenty. This poetic tale by one of the foremost Asian American playwrights beautifully captures the longing of a gay son who struggles against the hard working ethics of his father, an architect who will break the rules only once but with tragic consequences.

A DOUBLE BILL OF PLAYS directed by Philippe Cherbonnier
BEHIND THE MASQ (USA) by Sung Rno
This hilarious short play takes us behind the scenes at Bunroc-Q, the hottest band rapping its way to the top. But “who are they really” is the question they find hardest to answer.
DIARY OF A MADWOMAN (Singapore) by Chin Woon Ping
When Aunty disappears, the relatives gather again to wait for some news. While they play mah-jong in the front room, the niece discovers a diary which reveals her aunt’s mounting obsession with cameras and the unnerving feeling of being watched all the time.
Yellow Earth is a London based British East Asian touring theatre company, established in 1995 by five British East Asian performers, with a view to raising the profile and standing of British East Asian theatre. The company tours nationally and internationally. Typhoon is the UK’s only international East Asian playreading festival.
