AUDITIONS for The BUBBLE GUM KILLERS (a romantic musical)

Based on an article in a San Francisco newspaper in the 1930s, immigrating Filipinos form their own gangs in order to survive in the United States: supported by a Chorus and a Narrator, two like-minded enterprising Filipinos match hurdle barriers and pursue the American Dream in their own ways.
TIME: 1930s-40s PLACE: San Francisco
PRINCIPLE CHARACTERS:
JAIME (JIMMY CORTEZ,pass for): 20s-30s, confident, smart, a schoolboy at first who ends up working the fields; tenor
FERMIN CORTEZ,(pass for): 20s, his cousin; an Island sensibility; appealing; pines for his girl back home; tenor
BIANCA,(pass for): 20s-30s, streetwise, trying to leave her
Former life; smart-mouthed; contralto
THE NARRATOR,(pass for): female, 20s-30s; the successful crossover, every Filipino mans dream; symbol for new America; saucy (good dancer)
GUS EMILIANO,any age; leads the Sixth Street Sect; baritone
CHORUS: (6 8 possible) various races, ages, must sing and Move; BGK members; 6th St. Gang; Monterey dancehall girls; Dock immigrants; barracks manongs; Valley fieldworkers; The What-It's-Not dancers; S.F. cops; showcase roles include the following:
NESTO,(a BG Killer); challenges Jimmys leadership
BOY-BOY (6th St. gangmember under Gus); yes-man; tenor
ROB,20s-30s,Caucasian, Big Mikes head recruiter/foreman; likes balance
BIG MIKE,any age,Caucasian who exploits immigrant workers; blacklists Filipinos later

PLEASE NOTE: Seattle is the first city to have these auditions; New York is slated for Spring 2000; San Francisco and Los Angeles, for late-Spring 2000. DETAILS ARE STILL BEING FINALIZED. Until funds are secured, stipends will be determined; time frame follows:
Must commit to run scheduled production AUG.10-SEPT.2 IN S.F. BINDLESTIFF THEATRE, SF's ONLY FIL-AM THEATRE
Principals must also commit to the previous week's rehearsal JULY 31-AUG.9;
Chorus must commit to dance and music rehearsals to be scheduled
Auditioners are requested to consider the time frame, and IF called back, will be kept informed of ongoing plans ( providing your email addresses will be the most expedient way to do this ). BY Spring 2000, all actors called back may be asked to appear in San Francisco for final casting. Patience is greatly appreciated.

2 min. Monologue (cold reading - sides provided)
Perform an a cappella song
Be Prepared to Dance; dress accordingly
