EAST WEST PLAYERS SETS CAST AND DESIGNERS FOR WORLD PREMIERE: BIG NUNK O'BURNIN'LOVE

BIG HUNK O' BURNIN' LOVE, by Prince Gomolvilas, is the third production of the inaugural season at East West Players in the new David Henry Hwang Theatre at the Union Center for the Arts, located in Little Tokyo at 120 N. Judge John Aiso Street (formerly N. San Pedro Street, between First and Temple Streets). The opening for this world premiere production is set for July 15 and closing on August 2, 1998. Previews begin July 9. Performances are Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8pm and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm. There is no matinee performance on Saturday, July 18.

Directed by Chay Yew, resident director of East West Players, BIG HUNK O' BURNIN' LOVE is a contemporary screwball comedy about a Thai American man who must get married by his thirtieth birthday to avoid a cruel and unusual family curse.

The cast for BIG HUNK O' BURNIN LOVE includes (in alphabetical order) Kelly Coffield (In Living Color), Dennis Dun (Big Trouble in Little China, The Last Emperor), Kerri Higuchi, Steve Park (In Living Color, Fargo), Jeanne Sakata, and Eric Steinberg.

Set design for BIG HUNK O' BURNIN LOVE is by Akeime Mitterlehner, lighting by Lisa Hashimoto, costumes by Joyce Kim Lee, and sound design by Nathan Wang. Victoria A. Gathe is the production stage manager.

"This is the first Thai American comedy produced at East West Players," says director Chay Yew. "It addresses age-old Asian issues of race, gender, identity, familial obligation, love and death in a contemporary hilarious way.
