The Department of Theatre at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is currently searching for an Asian American Theatre Specialist. Please see the attached announcement for a full desciption of the position.

The Department has an intensive professional training program in acting, scene design, lighting design, costume design, theatre technology, and stage management, housed in a modern five-theatre arts center.

POSITION: ASIAN AMERICAN THEATER SPECIALIST

RANK, SALARY: Assistant professor; full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position; salary negotiable. Begin 21 August 2000.

DUTIES: Teach at least two courses each year in Asian American theater and drama (one a general-education course). Academic specialty should be in Asian American theater, not strictly Asian theater. Other courses selected from the candidate's secondary interests, such as theater theory and history, directing, acting, playwriting, or design. Serve on Theater Department committees; depending on experience, participate in the Department's production program. In addition, the candidate is expected to participate in the growing Asian American Studies Committee at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, which currently includes ten faculty members from various disciplines across campus.

QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience and terminal degree required; PhD preferred. Record of scholarly or creative activity.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Theater, UIUC, comprises 15 full-time faculty members and 15 adjunct faculty members with active BFA, MA, MFA, and PhD programs housed in a large performing arts center with five theaters.
