Cold Tofu seeks Artistic Director

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Los Angeles based, multiracial improvisation comedy group, Cold Tofu, has established a search committee for a new Artistic Director.

Established in 1981, Cold Tofu utilizes the universal language of laughter, believing that humor goes beyond coldr, age and religion. Drawing from the diverse backgrounds of its members, Cold Tofu's goal is to reach out to the Asian American communities, as well as the general public by dealing with universal themes.

"Artistic leadership, enthusiasm, good communication skills and experience as a theatre admisnistrator are qualifications wer're looking for," said Marilyn Tokuda, founding Artisitic Director of Cold Tofu. "We're searching for someone with vision and commitment, someone who will lead us into the 21st century."

Cold Tofu operates year-round by conducting workshops and performances throughout Southern California and beyond. The company has also has been performing at the Japanese American National Museum for the past six years.

Cold Tofu's most recent show, Tofu 2000: Curdling Toward the Next Millennium, played before packed houses at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood in late July. Guest artists included Amy Hill (All American
Girl
), Phil Lamar (Mad T.V.) and Steve Park (In Living Color).

Robert Covarrubias and Helen Ota, Co-Artistic Directors of Cold Tofu for
the past three years, will be stepping down from their positions as of January, 2000.
