Colorado's THEATRE ESPRIT ASIA

with 6 WINS at the 2014 COLORADO THEATRE FESTIVAL
TEA's entry for the Festival was the solo play Spirit & Sworded Treks, written, directed and performed by Maria Cheng;
with assistant direction by Tria Xiong; lighting design by Christopher Waller and choreography/props/costume by Maria Cheng.
TEA was eligible in 9 categories, and walked
away with 6 wins, more than any other company at the Festival! The
awards were given out Saturday evening, August 16, 2014 at the
Conservatory Theatre of the Robert & Judy Newman Center for Theatre
Education, 1101 13th Street, Denver, CO.
TEA's awards are the following:
- Peoples Choice (Voters included
participating companies, the 2 adjudicators, the 2 American Association
of Community Theatre representatives, the Colorado Festival Board and
general public.)
- Best Actress Maria Cheng tied with Lisa Young of Vintage Theatre
- Best Original Play
- Best Lighting - Christopher Waller for TEA
- Best Choreography
- Excellence in Directing:
The adjudicators gave two nominations for Best Director: Maria Cheng and Craig Bond of the Vintage for Song to Coretta.
TEA happily concedes the win and extends hearty congratulations to
Craig, not only because it is well deserved for his wonderful work on Song to
Coretta, but also because it was while acting in his Vintage Theatre production of The Joy Luck Club two years ago that Tria Xiong and Maria Cheng
met and founded TEA! Craig won, but the adjudicators cited Maria for Excellence in Directing.
In addition, TEA received 5 inquiries from various venues to possibly present Spirit & Sworded Treks.
