East West Offers Internships

East West Players is offering three internships this summer sponsored by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. www.lacountyarts.org/internship.html

Student eligibility for internship positions is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates who reside in or attend college in Los Angeles County and who will have completed at least one semester of college by June 2005 and will not graduate before December 2005.

All interns are required to work 40 hours a week for 10 weeks. (Work schedules will vary based on students‚ summer schedules.) Interns will earn $350 per week. It is expected that the internship will be the student's primary focus during the summer. Participating interns should not be enrolled in summer classes or working another job. Students should not plan to take a vacation during the 10-week internship.

To provide a broad overview of the arts in Los Angeles County, four
mandatory educational components are built into the program:
 Intern Day at the Getty Center ˆ Monday, June 20
 Discussion Leader Field Trip ˆ weeks of July 5-8 or July 11-15 (one day to be determined by Discussion Leader)
 ArtBus Tour ˆ Tuesday, July 19
 Arts Congress ˆ Monday, August 1

  • MARKETING ASSISTANT
    Will publicize fundraising events, season subscription campaigns, educational programs, productions and more. Must be computer proficient (Word, Excel, Internet) with excellent and accurate spelling, grammar, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Should have the flexibility to work occasional nights/weekends during special events.
  • DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANT
    Will provide support for event productions, gift solicitation and research. Will be involved in grant writing and other development initiatives, including communication with donors at all levels. Must be computer proficient (Word, Excel, Internet) with excellent and accurate spelling, grammar, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Should have the flexibility to work occasional nights/weekends during special events.
  • TECHNICAL PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
    Will provide technical and production related support for a 240-seat theatre and a separate warehouse site through aiding in prop and set construction, theatre maintenance and other activities. Will also assist the Production manager in preproduction. Must be skilled in construction, basic electrical knowledge, as well as possess the ability and willingness to lift or carry heavy items, such as props. Design or theatre experience is a plus. Should also be able to do "hands on" jobs and work in a nonoffice environment.
