Bindlestiff Auditions (SF, CA)

Bindlestiff Studio, the epicenter of Filipino American performing arts will be holding auditions for its forthcoming staging of Patty Cachapero’s ANAK TI DIABLO (Children of the Devil) in May.

February 10 and 11, Thursday/Friday at 7pm

Looking for Filipino American males and females, ages 15 to early 20s and adults in their late 40s to mid 50s.

Characters

  • JACK, Pilipino, 20s, manager/singer/songwriter of the band Anak ti Diablo, works at Ameoba, lives with Mama and her older sister Virgie.
  • VIRGIE, Pilipino, early 30s, part-time community college student, part-time clerk at Safeway, has constantly competed in but has never yet won the Miss Barrio Fiesta Queen pageant, lives with Mama and Jack.
  • MAMA, Pilipino, early 50s, for the past seven years has grieved for the soul of her dead husband more and more with each passing year while she has guiltily suffered from her unrequited love for Eddie, works as a housekeeper at the Cathedral Hill Hotel, supports her two daughters.
  • EDDIE, Pilipino, early 50s, retired, Mama's next-door neighbor, for the past twenty-seven years he has suffered from his unrequited love for Mama.
  • BONG BONG, Pilipino, late 20s, expelled from the seminary, recently paroled convicted felon, compulsive gambler, Jack and Virgie's middle brother.
  • BIG JAKE, Pilipino, early 40s, local loan shark, supports his son Jake Jr.
  • JAKE JR., Pilipino, 20s, lead guitarist for Anak ti Diablo, not cool like his dad, pothead.
  • RIP, Pilipino, 20s, bass player for Anak ti Diablo, really into his looks, thinks he "could run the band better than Jack but whatevers I'll play bass, that's cool", pothead.
  • SLANG, Filipino, 20s, drummer for Anak ti Diablo or rather experimental found-sound artist, not the sharpest tool in the shed, pothead.
