The Ma-Yi Writers Lab is the largest resident company of Asian-American
playwrights ever assembled in recorded time. This year, become a part

This year, PLAYWRIGHTS’ ARENA (the only theater dedicated to producing
works written exclusively by Los Angeles playwrights) is celebrating
its 22nd ANNIVERSARY with its annual fundraiser – HOT NIGHT IN THE
CITY: an evening of songs by LA-based composers and lyricists.
The event is on Tuesday, Aril 8th, at Barndsall Gallery Theater in
Hollywood. At the event we are honoring community leader ANDREA
COCKRUM, playwright HENRY ONG and LA Women’s Shakespeare Company
artistic director, LISA WOLPE with the Lee Melville Award for

The next National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival is
taking place in Philadelphia this year, October 8th-12th, 2014! The
ConFest is currently entitled "Home: Here…There… Where?". Through the
lens of the Asian American experience of migration and the search for a
sense of “place” and equity on personal, community, and global levels,
the ConFest will examine Asian Americans' relationship to broad
definitions and meanings of home. Over 4 1/2 days, the 2014 ConFest
will include 4 full-length productions, 2 performance showcases, 20
panel discussions or workshops, and 3 plenary sessions. Open-mic
opportunities, video presentation sessions with artists sharing
work-in-progress, neighborhood artist/open studio and community tours,
new play readings, and open space sessions will round out the program.

Public Reading of Scripts on Monday, April 7
Taking stories and ideas from local news sources, Mo'olelo is
sponsoring classes that will write and develop original monologues and
shorts scenes, based on characters both real and imagined. The workshop
culminates with the students holding a reading of approximately 5 - 10
minutes of each student's selected work in an evening that's open to
the public to enjoy. Students will serve as their own producers for the
public reading by securing readers, publicizing it and staffing the
